One reason that you gotta love Android for is its broad app availability, meaning that in order to accomplish a given task, be it to keep an eye on your Facebook updates, surf the web, or make a video chat over the internet, there is more than a single app to do that. That is why we thought it would be a good idea to introduce you to 10 alternatives to popular Android applications and features.
You can check them by flicking through the slideshow below, and if you have a suggestion of an app that should have been in our list, just drop us a line in the comment section below. Feedback is appreciated!
1. Friendcaster
When you get tired of the Facebook for Android app, give Friendcaster a try. It is a free alternative that can do pretty much anything that the official app is capable of, yet some will surely find it more streamlined and efficient.

2. Tango
Skype, watch out! Tango is here offering free voice calls over 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi, and no-cost video calls that you can record and send to your contacts. Besides, there is a desktop client available already, so what more can you ask for?

3. Dolphin Browser HD
The stock Android web browser may be okay, but its alternatives often deliver a much better experience. There are many great third-party web browsers available in the market, but Dolphin Browser HD is probably the best one of them. Just check it out to see what you have been missing on.

4. Hipster
Instagram is really, really popular, there is no denying that, but plenty of substitutes are available online. Take Hipster, for example - you got the filters, the borders, the captions, and, of course, the ability to check out what other users from around the world are posting photos of.

5. Pulse
If Google Reader seems a bit bland, check out Pulse. It is a popular RSS feed reader with a pretty interface and neat goodies such as Facebook and Twitter integration. Besides, it plays along well with bookmarking services.

6. Springpad
Evernote is surely one of the best apps for note taking, but Springpad does not fall far behind. Besides taking quick notes (acompanied by a photo or voice note, should you desire), it allows you to follow public notepads and all the cool stuff people post there. Widgets of various shapes and sizes come included as well.

7. HootSuite
What makes HootSuite a well worthy substitute for Twitter and other social networking apps is that it can manage multiple social networks at the same time: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Foursquare. Therefore, you can update your status across all of them with a single action.

8. Do it (tomorrow)
Do it (tomorrow) is an unusual alternative for Tasks or any other app that lets you manage to-do lists. And as the name suggests, procrastination is fundamental to its functionality. Do it (tomorrow) is pretty straightforward to use and lets you easily put non-important stuff in the agenda for the following day.

9. ASTRO File Manager
While most Android smartphones come with a file manager of some sort, none of them is as versatile asASTRO. Of course, you can use it for basic stuff like moving around or search for files stored locally on your handset, but in addition, the app lets you browse for stuff shared on a local Windows network too. Neato!
